Defection: PDP asks Speaker to resign

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has asked Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday, to resign his position as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“After a thorough consideration of the matter, the NWC came to a conclusion that the Hon. Speaker, as a responsible elected officer, knows full well what is needful and honourable of him since his new party is in the minority [in the House]” the party said at the end of the NWC meeting. 

Tambuwal abandoned the PDP yesterday, thereby becoming the latest high-profile figure of the party to do so.
