The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, said it would unravel
the circumstance that prompted a 60-year-old retired Assistant Superintendent
of Police, Sunday Isokpehi, to shoot himself and his 40-year-old wife, Gladys,
to death.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who
stated this while reacting to the tragic incident, said the Command would
investigate whether or not the late Police officer legally acquired the
double-barrelled gun he used to perpetrate the crime.
The late Isokpehi was reported to have shot his wife to death on
Saturday after returning to their home in Ota area of the state after accusing
her of being drunk, and shortly after killed himself.
Adejobi said contrary to reports that late Isokpehi was a
retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, the officer retired as Assistant
Superintendent of Police, adding that he did not kill his son.
He said: “We are still investigating the immediate and remote
causes of the tragic incident. We will find out whether the man was depressed
or was under any influence, because a normal human being will not open fire on
his wife and then kill himself.
“We will investigate how he got the double-barrelled gun he used
to commit the dastardly act.”
