The Forbes Five: Hip-Hop's Wealthiest Artists 2013

1. Diddy - $580 million: The bulk of the Bad Boy Records founder’s wealth comes from non-musical ventures, namely his deal with Diageo’s Ciroc. The agreement entitles him to eight-figure annual payouts and a nine-figure windfall if the brand is ever sold—and Ciroc’s value has never been higher

2. Jay Z - $475 million: He’s still rolling in cash from megadeals like his $204 million Rocawear sale in 2007 and his $150 million pact with Live Nation the following year. He continues to hold stakes in Roc Nation, Carol’s Daughter, the Brooklyn Nets and, more significantly, the Barclays Center itself, while adding new partnerships with the likes of Duracell, Budweiser and Bacardi’s D’ussé Cognac

3. Dr Dre - $350 million: It's thanks mostly to his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones. A year after selling 51% of the company to handset maker HTC for $300 million in August 2011, Dre and his partners bought back half of the half they sold in 2012—and their investment continues to soar in value due to Beats’ whopping 65% market share of the premium ($99 and up) headphone market.

4. Bryan “Birdman” Williams - $150 million: Riding from his Cash Money/Young Money empire. His roster includes Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne (the latter crossed the $100 million threshold for the first time this year, by our estimates, but remains just outside the top five). Birdman also recently launched a YMCMB clothing line and a spirit called GT Vodka.

5. 50 Cent - $125 million: The bulk of his fortune came from heavy sales of his music, merchandise, video games and books in the wake of his smash debut Get Rich or Die Tryin’- and particularly from his payout for the sale of his stake in VitaminWater parent Glacéau to Coca-Cola in 2007.

Why I Did Not Attend Tuface’s Wedding In Dubai – Blackface

The relationship between Tuface (real name Innocent Ujah Idibia) and Blackface (real name Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo) dates back to 1996 when they first met at the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Enugu and that chance meeting gave birth to arguably what would be one of Nigeria’s biggest R&B/Pop group – Plantashun Boiz – with Richard Chibuzor Oji (Faze).
However, fast forward 17-years later, Tuface and Blackface, both Idomas from Benue state, are neither friends nor enemies; just colleagues in the industry.

Tuface’s mother of all wedding in Dubai has come and gone last weekend but the ripples it has generated will continue to resonate for a long time to come – one of which is the reason why he did not invite his buddy from way back, Blackface.
While former band mate, Faze, was one of the groomsmen, Blackface was not even part of the 250 special guests invited to share the happy moment with Tuface in the Middle East country.
So, when a fan on Twitter asked Blackface why he did not join the train to Dubai, he simply responded thus, “I no dey go where I no dey invited! but I wish dem all they wish themselves!”

Wizkid back to his former Music label, EME

If everything goes according to plan, Wizkid will soon be returning to his former music label, EME Music Group, this is according to a reliable industry source. The source revealed to me exclusively that Wizkid and EME bosses have been going back and forth for the last couple of weeks through their lawyers trying to agree on new terms of them working together again.

"Wizkid leaving EME was just his way of pushing the bosses at the label to take him seriously and increase his earning percentage. When he joined EME he wasn't a star but then he became a mega star and was making a lot of money for the label and they still didn't increase his earning percentage so he took a walk. Now they are working on a new contract that will favour Wizkid." The source said
I hear in the new contract being drafted, EME will not take a dime from Wizkid's international deals. When they start working together again.

Sina Rambo and B.Red Gang Up To Beat Davido In Atlanta...

Entertainment website THE NET is reporting that Davido's cousins and label mates- Sina Rambo and B-Red had a nasty fight with their more popular cousin in Atlanta.

According to THE NET's story, the reason for the family feud stemmed from Sina Rambo and B-Red believing that Davido was doing little to promote their works and was intentionally releasing singles and music videos to overshadow their singles.

"Sources tell us a big fight allegedly ensued between Davido and cousins B Red and Sina Rambo some weeks back in Atlanta – The cousins had accused Davido of not doing much for their careers as much as he should after they chose him as the label’s front line act. They also accused him of not giving them a chance to fully promote their new singles only to overshadow them at any given chance."- THE NET.

The fight between the cousins was physical which led to properties being damaged in their Atlanta home. Davido left his cousins in Atlanta to perform alongside Nas in Houston. After his performance he flew straight to Nigeria leaving B-Red and Sina Rambo stuck in Atlanta. B-Red is back in the country, Sina however is still in Atlanta.

B-Red who is Davido's hype man hasn't been with him on stage in his last couple of shows. He was also conspicuously absent at Davido's mum's remembrance. After the clash, B-Red and Sina Rambo are planning on leaving HKN.

B-Red and Sina Rambo are the sons of Davido's father's senior brother. Sina Rambo released his debut single 'Ijo Sina' featuring Davido last October. B-Red dropped his introductory single 'Insane Girl' featuring Davido in February.

Not long after that, Davido was seen partying with Wizkid in Lagos

Jesse Jagz Part Ways With Chocolate City ( the inside Story)

Jesse JagzFacebook profile was updated  with the following statement below, saying that he has parted amicably with Chocolate City. The same label where his brother M.I functions as Executive Vice President.

His statement reads
To whom it may concern

I, Jesse Garba Abaga (also known as “Jesse Jagz”) an artist formerly signed to Chocolate City Music label hereby wishes to notify my fans and the general public about my voluntary exit from the label.

After my initial two year contractual agreement with Chocolate City, I do not wish to renew my contract with them and as such have proceeded to continue my music career with my new team at Jesse Jagz Nation. I still maintain a cordial relationship with the management of Chocolate City and my former label mates and I wish them the best in all their future endeavors. Any further information will be passed across through my publicist but until then, have a good day. Look out for my sophomore album JagZNation Vol. 1 coming out in July 2013.

All for the best,

Jesse Jagz

Jesse Jagz was signed on to Chocolate City by CEO Audu Maikori, along with elder brother Jude ‘M.I’ Abaga in 2008. Jagz also went on to release his debut ‘Jag of all Tradez’ which spurned hit tracks like “Wetin dey” and “Nobody Test me”.
Sources say he’s angry with management giving more attention to other label mates Ice Prince and Brymo. As yet though, it has not been confirmed if Jesse himself updated his Facebook account as all calls to reach his management have proved abortive.

5 Hottest Music Producers in Nigeria right now…

The Nigerian music industry gets bigger by the day and while the music stars get all the credit, a lot of praise should also be attributed to the people behind the production board.

Here’s a brief highlight on five of the hottest music producers in Nigeria right now…

Sarz - This young producer associated with eLDee‘s Trybe Records imprint bullied the game in 2012 with his infectious pop production. After producing a batch of the hit singles on EME’s compilation album, Sarz isn’t stopping. His first single ‘Samba‘ featuring Wizkid is arguably the hottest tune around now. For now Sarz still has an iron grip on the production game in Nigeria.

Maleek Berry - All the way from London Maleek Berry has made a name for himself in Nigeria’s music scene. His first success was on Sinzu’s 2011 hit ‘Carolina’. He duplicated his magic on Davido‘s debut album O.B.O. Maleek Berry’s star has continued to rise with production for the likes of Wande Coal and Wizkid. His first single ‘Back To The Matter‘ featuring Wizkid is a straight up heavy track while his production on Wande’s new single is smooth and superb.

Spellz - Spellz is so anonymous that people don’t know he is responsible for a lot of hits we groove to. The young man produced Tiwa Savage‘s ‘Folarin’ and Banky W‘s ‘Good Loving‘. His production style is featured a lot on Banky W’s new album. As a result of his growing prominence he is now being managed by Tiwa Savage’s manager Tee Billz.

Chopstix - This J. Town producer has risen from being GRIP Boiz‘ sole producer to Ice Prince’s sound main crafter. He laced the beats for Ice Prince’s new singles ‘Aboki’ and ‘More’- which are already hits. He showed he was no one-trick pony on his production on ‘Truth‘. His work for the GRIP Boyz and Reminisce has many touting Chopstix to be the hottest producer by the time 2013 calls it a day.

Don Jazzy - Don Jazzy hasn’t had too many production as of late but his work on D’Prince‘s Frenzy is still bumping in clubs here and abroad. Most importantly he crafted one of the hottest songs of this year so far- ‘The Kick‘ by Wande Coal. His production on Wande Coal’s comeback single is reminiscent of his Mo’ Hits days when he was the country’s number one hit maker.
